From the discovery of Isla Nublar to the Netflix series ‘Cretaceous Camp’, going through the two great trilogies of the film saga, this is the ENTIRE story of the Jurassic parks.
There are sagas that have been with us for decades, and ‘Jurassic Park’ is one of the most iconic. Its history has been woven from the premiere of Steven Spielberg’s film in 1993 to the most recent installments of ‘Jurassic World’ with directors such as Colin Trevorrow and the Spanish J.A. Bayona, and in the middle we have also had an animated series on Netflix, ‘Cretaceous Camp’, which creates its own story in the same reality as the events that we live on the big screen.
As we can see, there is a lot of story within all the movies, series and even comics in motion of the franchise, and for that reason, with the help of the very complete Fandom portal, we have put all the pieces together and we have developed this timeline with all the great events that have marked the history of Jurassic parks in fiction. In this way, collecting all the information that has been provided to us over the years, we can connect numerous events from another perspective.
Prepared? Here’s the full movie timeline so you don’t miss out:
1525 – Discovery of Isla Nublar. The Spanish navigator Diego Fernandez discovers the island and the cartographer Nicolás de Huelva gives it its name referring to the clouds of smoke that emanate from its volcano.
March 14, 1913 – John Hammond is born in Edinburgh (Scotland).
1930 – Sanjay Masrani is born in Bombay (India).
1945 – Benjamin Lockwood is born.
1967 – Simon Masrani, son of Sanjay, is born in Bombay.
1969 – John Hammond opens his first animal park, “Animal Kingdom” in Nairobi, Kenya. He hires Robert Muldoon as a guard.
February 16, 1973 – Sanjay Masrani founds Masrani Corporation, initially a telecommunications company.
1975 – John Hammond and Benjamin Lockwood found International Genetic Technologies, or InGen, in San Diego, California.
1980 – John Hammond’s granddaughter Alexis Murphy is born.
1981 – Owen Grady is born.
1982 – InGen leases Isla Sorna and neighboring islands to the Costa Rican government on a 99-year contract. The work of extracting DNA from mosquitoes trapped in amber begins.
1983 – Birth of Tim Murphy and also Benjamin Lockwood’s daughter Maisie. In addition, the construction of the Jurassic Park in San Diego begins.
1984 – The first Jurassic animal is brought back to life on the Lockwood estate, using an artificial egg.
1985 – InGen moves to Palo Alto. Hammond hires Dr. Laura Sorkin, who helps demonstrate that DNA can be extracted from amber. In this same year, Hammond decides to cancel the Jurassic Park in San Diego and moves it to Isla Nublar.
1986 – InGen clones their first dinosaur, a Triceratops, on Isla Sorna, and hires Dr. Henry Wu, who will later suggest mixing dinosaur DNA with contemporary animal DNA.
1988 – The first Tyrannosaurus rex (‘Rexy’) is born on Isla Sorna. It is also the year in which the construction of the Jurassic Park begins on Isla Nublar.
1989 – Rexy moves to Isla Nublar along with other animals.
1991-Dr. Wu realizes that the DNA of the yellow-branded poison dart frog is incompatible with some dinosaur genomes, including Velociraptors, so he begins using common cane frogs instead. Unbeknownst to him and all the other InGen scientists without an encyclopedia at hand, the reed frog is capable of changing sex, an ability passed on to dinosaurs, allowing them to reproduce.
1992 – Dr. Wu and Robert Muldoon observe the Velociraptor’s intelligence levels. In addition, Sanjay Masrani dies and Simon is his successor as head of Masrani Corporation.
1993-Dr. Wu begins his research to create hybrids of different species. This year, John Hammond and Benjamin Lockwood break up because Lockwood wants to research human cloning with InGen technology. In addition, another event happens that is important for the history of the velociraptors in the saga: a velociraptor attacks and kills a large group of animals in the park, and tries to find the weaknesses of the electric fences with his companions. This leads to the decision to move this race of dinosaurs to their own and heavily guarded space.
